HU 6 Hydrolysis Unit

The HU 6 Hydrolysis Unit is an advanced laboratory solution for sample preparation prior to total fat extraction. This process enables the release of fat molecules from the sample, improving the efficiency of solvent extraction. HU 6 ensures maximum safety and productivity, allowing the simultaneous processing of six samples, in compliance with AOAC methods for fat determination in food such as meat, cheese, seafood, chocolate, cereal flours, and more.

The hydrolysis process is performed by heating the samples in an aluminum heating block, which ensures uniform thermal distribution. Hydrolysis is carried out in an acidic environment (4N hydrochloric acid) or, in some cases, in a basic environment (20% ammonia) at a temperature of 170°C for approximately 60 minutes.

After hydrolysis, the sample is filtered through a glass crucible, rinsed with warm deionized water to eliminate acid traces, then dried in an oven and transferred to a desiccator. This process prevents sample loss and ensures high analytical accuracy.

HU 6 includes an integrated vacuum pump, minimizing exposure to acid fumes and enhancing operator safety.

Fast and safe hydrolysis

In some samples, direct solvent extraction is not efficient because lipids are chemically bound to other components. In these cases, preliminary hydrolysis, followed by filtration and rinsing, is required to completely release the fat molecules.

Once hydrolysis is complete, the sample is ready for extraction and can be easily transferred to the SER 148 or SER 158 Solvent Extraction Unit, avoiding any risk of sample loss and improving the accuracy of results.

HU 6 enables simultaneous filtration and rinsing of up to six samples, while integrated valves allow selective vacuum interruption in each position, speeding up the filtration process.

Continuous filtration and rinsing of six samples in parallel

The HU 6 Hydrolysis Unit incorporates TEMS™ technology, providing significant savings through four key factors:

Time Saving: Rapid heating reduces analysis time.
Energy Saving: Optimized consumption lowers CO₂ emissions.
Money Saving: Lower cost per analysis.
Space Saving: Compact design saves valuable lab space.

This system delivers maximum efficiency and safety, allowing laboratories to process a higher number of samples in less time, while optimizing resource consumption.
